Nigerian rapper Yung6ix has reignited a debate within the music industry by taking a direct jab at fellow artist Davido.
In a recent video shared on social media, Yung6ix, whose real name is Onome Onokohwomo, claimed that he, alongside Wizkid and Olamide, had already attained stardom before Davido. His comments came in response to Davido’s assertion that he and Wizkid were among the first young Nigerian artists to achieve major success in the industry.
In his statement, Yung6ix emphasized, “It was Wizkid, Olamide, and me before it was you,” reflecting on the early days of his career. He expressed frustration at being left out of Davido’s narrative, suggesting that the trio were pioneers during their time. He added that while he had “nothing but love” for Davido, it was important to acknowledge that his own contributions and success came earlier.
This reaction follows Davido’s praise of newer stars like Burna Boy, Rema, and Asake, whom he referred to as the “new cats” currently dominating the music scene.
Yung6ix’s remarks add another layer to the ongoing conversation about the evolution of Nigerian music and the contributions of different artists over the years.
