President Tinubu Approves ₦70K Minimum Wage for Workers!
President Bola Tinubu has just given the green light for a new minimum wage of ₦70,000 for workers across Nigeria. This announcement came straight from his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, on Thursday, July 18, 2024.
So, what does this mean for you? Well, if you’re working, you can now expect a minimum of ₦70,000 monthly, which is a big step up. And guess what? Tinubu is also making sure this isn’t a one-time thing. He’s committed to reviewing the national minimum wage every three years to keep things fair and up-to-date.
This decision came out of a meeting in Abuja with leaders from the Trade Union Congress (TUC) and the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC). The labour leaders were pretty happy with Tinubu’s move and even called it a “fatherly gesture.”
But that’s not all. Tinubu is also looking into ways to help private businesses and regional governments meet these new wage standards. Plus, he promised to use his powers to resolve issues related to unpaid salaries for university staff, which have been pending for four months.
So, things are looking up for Nigerian workers, with better pay and more regular reviews of the minimum wage on the horizon. Let’s hope these changes make a positive difference in people’s lives!
