Nigerian music sensation Wizkid has reached a remarkable milestone on Spotify, breaking the record for the highest first-day streams by any song in the platform’s Nigerian chart history.
His latest single, “Piece of My Heart,” amassed an impressive 1.01 million streams on its debut, reflecting both his massive fan base and the song’s broad appeal.
The Grammy-winning artist dropped the much-anticipated track over the weekend, featuring American singer-songwriter Brent Faiyaz. Fans had been eagerly awaiting the collaboration, which fuses Wizkid’s signature Afrobeat sound with Faiyaz’s soulful R&B style, delivering a unique musical experience.
Both artists are poised to make a significant impact with this release, which is already resonating with listeners worldwide.
According to Turntable Charts on X (formerly Twitter), the song reached the 1.01 million-stream milestone on its first day on Spotify Nigeria, surpassing previous records. The platform noted that “Piece of My Heart” outperformed Wizkid’s previous collaboration with Asake, “MMS,” which accumulated 870,000 first-day streams, and Zlatan Ibile’s “IDK” at 626,000.
This accomplishment makes “Piece of My Heart,” an R&B-infused mid-tempo track, the first African song to cross the 1 million opening day streams on Spotify.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) confirmed the release of this captivating track as the lead single from Wizkid’s upcoming album, Morayo, set for release on November 22. Produced by P2J and Dpat, the song features smooth, heartfelt lyrics about enduring love and passion. Faiyaz delivers the emotive chorus, “Nothing can tear us apart, you’ve got a piece of my heart,” while Wizkid’s distinctive vocal style adds depth and emotion.
With its warm reception and growing buzz, “Piece of My Heart” is setting the stage for Wizkid’s highly anticipated album.
