The beloved singer, journalist, and cultural icon, Onyeka Onwenu, widely known as the “Elegant Stallion,” was recently laid to rest in an emotional ceremony in Lagos.
The 72-year-old passed away on July 30, 2024, after suffering injuries from a fall during an event held in honour of Emzor Pharmaceuticals’ Managing Director, Dr. Stella Okoli. Onwenu was treated at Reddington Hospital in Ikeja, where she later passed away.
Her funeral service was held at The Fountain of Life Church in Ilupeju, followed by a private burial at a mausoleum in Ikoyi. The event was attended by many notable figures, including former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi and Abia State Governor Alex Otti.
Onwenu’s death marks the loss of a distinguished musician, broadcaster, actor, politician, and activist, who is survived by her two sons. Videos from the burial have circulated widely online, prompting heartfelt tributes and emotions from admirers across the nation.
