Nigeria’s Minister of Industry, Trade, and Investment, Nigeria Minister of trade, revealed that the country suffered an estimated loss of N500 billion due to the recent hunger protests. She made this disclosure in a statement posted on her official X handle, expressing concern over the significant economic impact of the protests, which were organized under the banner #EndBadGovernance.
Dr. Anite highlighted that the protests led to the destruction of goods valued at approximately N52 billion, with the death toll rising to 21. She emphasized that the widespread looting during the protests has been a major setback for businesses and entrepreneurs across Nigeria.
In her statement, Dr. Anite expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives and the economic damage caused by the unrest. “The loss of lives during the protests is saddening. My thoughts are with the families affected. The looting, resulting in billions lost, is a severe setback for our economy and entrepreneurs. Let’s honor those we’ve lost by striving for more peaceful and constructive dialogue,” she urged. Dr. Anite also called for more peaceful and constructive dialogue moving forward to prevent such disruptions in the future.
