Ololade Ayelabola, a student at the University of Lagos (UNILAG), has set a remarkable new record for the longest distance walked by a model. Ayelabola completed an astounding 130.62 kilometers, exceeding her original target of 120 kilometers.
She began her walk on October 1 at UNILAG’s indoor sports center, where she achieved this feat by completing 2,058 laps within the facility.
In a statement shared on Instagram, she explained that her effort was aimed at putting Nigeria’s fashion industry and creative talents on the world stage. “This walk isn’t just for me. It’s for countless models held back by stereotypes and rigid standards.
It’s also to highlight the brilliance of Nigeria’s fashion sector,” Ayelabola expressed. Her achievement now awaits official confirmation by Guinness World Records (GWR), and if verified, it would surpass the previous record set by Roberta Brown and Lorraine McCourt, who walked 114.4 kilometers in Dublin, Ireland, in 1983.
