A Nigerian man named Jonathan has regained his freedom after being jailed over a ₦1.137 million debt. His release comes after a heartfelt letter he wrote from prison went viral on social media.

Jonathan’s letter was discovered by a group of Twitter influencers who visited the prison for a friendly football match. One of the influencers received the letter from Jonathan, and it eventually made its way online.
The letter revealed that Jonathan was imprisoned over a debt of ₦1.137 million. After the letter gained traction online, a popular influencer known as Wizarab took interest in Jonathan’s case and vowed to help secure his release.
A public donation campaign was launched, and within weeks, enough funds were raised to settle the debt. Jonathan has now been released from prison, and he’s expressed his gratitude to everyone who contributed to his freedom.
In a video, Jonathan said, “My name is Jonathan. I have just been released from Apapakene Correctional Center. I’m using this opportunity to sincerely thank everyone who donated, contributed, or supported me in any way. I am so grateful.”
