Lateef Adedimeji, a talented Nigerian actor, has revealed the secret behind his successful career in the entertainment industry. In a recent interview with Saturday Beats, Adedimeji shared that he intentionally built his image as an actor who can cry convincingly on screen.
“I started by focusing on crying roles,” he explained. “I would cry like an idiot, and if I was asked to cry for one minute, I would go for two. I was intentional about creating this image, and it paid off. People started referring to me as the guy who cries in movies.”
However, Adedimeji didn’t stop there. He knew that he had to reinvent himself to avoid being typecast. So, he introduced his Igbo-Yoruba character, which added a new dimension to his acting career.
“I was strategic at every stage,” he said. “When ‘Ayinla’ came, people saw a musical side of me they hadn’t seen before. Then ‘Jagun Jagun’ followed, and they discovered my strength in action roles. At every turn, I made sure to reinvent myself strategically.”
Adedimeji’s hard work and dedication have paid off, and he has become one of the most sought-after actors in Nollywood. His film “Lisabi” was one of the top searched movies on Google in 2024, and he couldn’t be more thrilled.
“I am thrilled,” he said. “The joy lies in creating something that resonates with a wide audience. There is nothing more fulfilling than that.”
Adedimeji also emphasized the importance of telling indigenous stories and celebrating Nigerian heroes. “If we can embrace the heroes of other countries, what happens to our own heroes?” he asked. “There are people that fought for our own liberation, so why can’t we tell their stories and appreciate them as well?”
