Nigerian singer Darkoo recently shared insights about her relationship with fellow artist Ayra Starr during her appearance on the Uncut Podcast.
Darkoo described Ayra Starr as more than just an industry acquaintance, calling her a sister rather than a typical industry friend.
“I have some friends within the industry, but I’m not actively seeking friendships there,” Darkoo explained. “What I’ve found in Ayra Starr is more akin to sisterhood. I don’t view her as just an industry friend; she feels like family to me.”
Darkoo emphasized their strong connection, noting their similarities and mutual respect. “Our bond works so well because we have a lot in common.
What I truly appreciate about her is her respectfulness and the way she embodies the essence of a proper Naija girl in her outlook on life. We both learn a lot from each other, and I cherish that kind of relationship.”
She further discussed her perspective on industry relationships, stating that while she is naturally friendly and can easily form connections, she does not consider everyone she interacts with to be genuine friends.
“In terms of socializing, I wouldn’t categorize people I go out with as my friends. I’m very sociable, so it’s easy to strike up friendships, but those connections often remain superficial.
Distance can be beneficial, as becoming too close can sometimes lead to a lack of respect and overfamiliarity.”
