Selena Gomez was overcome with emotion as she shared her thoughts on Donald Trump’s immigration policy. In a now-deleted Instagram video, the singer-actress tearfully expressed her sorrow and frustration over the deportation of illegal immigrants.
Gomez, who has been vocal about immigration issues in the past, produced a Netflix documentary titled Living Undocumented in 2019. The series sheds light on the struggles of eight undocumented families living in the US during the Trump administration.
In her emotional video, Gomez apologized for not being able to do more to help. “I just wanted to say that I’m so sorry. All my people are getting attacked. The children. I don’t understand. I’m so sorry, I wish I could do something but I can’t. I don’t know what to do. I’ll try everything, I promise.”
While many fans supported Gomez’s emotional outburst, others criticized her reaction. Some argued that Trump’s policy was not specifically targeted at Mexicans and Latinos, but rather aimed at addressing illegal immigration.
Gomez later deleted the video, but not before facing backlash for her emotional response. She also deleted a follow-up post in which she addressed the criticism, saying “Apparently it’s not ok to show empathy for people.”
