Afrobeat artist Anthony Ebuka Victor, widely known as Victony, has shared that his parents only fully recognized his dedication to music following a car accident in 2021, during which he spent four days in a coma.
Victony explained that before the accident, his family considered music just a pastime, especially given his strong academic performance.
His love for music grew stronger after he began university.
The accident proved to be a turning point, as his parents saw the overwhelming support he garnered from the music community during his recovery. This made them realize the extent of his dedication to his music career and ultimately led them to endorse his pursuit of it. Victony shared these insights in a recent interview on Sway’s Universe, explaining:
“I used to do music as a hobby and everybody knew that I loved music but they didn’t think I was going to take it seriously. I was good at school so they never bothered about it and they never thought it would distract me from my education but when I got into the university, that was when I started to take it seriously
“They didn’t know I was taking it seriously until after the accident. When the accident happened, a lot of people came to the hospital and they wondered how it was possible. They soon began to realise that I had a community that was growing already and they gave me their blessings from that point.”
