An Oyo State High Court in Ibadan has granted bail to Olori Naomi Silekunola, Alhaji Oriyomi Hamzat, and Abdulahi Fasasi, the principal of Islamic High School, Bashorun, Ibadan. The ruling was delivered by Justice K.B. Olawoyin on Monday, January 13, 2025.
The trio was arrested and charged in connection with a tragic Christmas funfair that resulted in the deaths of 35 children in Ibadan. They face a four-count charge, including conspiracy, acceleration of death, negligent acts causing harm, and omitting to provide adequate security and medical facilities.
The bail application was initially reserved for ruling on January 7, 2025. However, the court has now approved the bail, granting the defendants freedom pending the outcome of the trial.
The conditions of the bail require each defendant to provide two sureties, with each surety worth ₦10 million. Furthermore, Agidigbo FM, owned by Oriyomi Hamzat, is prohibited from broadcasting any news related to the ongoing trial.
