Veteran Nollywood actress, Binta Ayo Mogaji, affectionately known as Mama Insurance, recently shared her inspiring journey to motherhood on the “Talk To B” podcast.
Mogaji revealed that Binta Ayo became a mother at the age of 40, despite having undergone surgery to remove one of her fallopian tubes due to an ectopic pregnancy.
Reflecting on her experience, Mogaji detailed the challenges she faced. She was taken to seven different hospitals, and doctors were initially uncertain about her survival. The surgery, which lasted between seven to nine hours, resulted in the removal of one fallopian tube. Despite this, she was able to conceive naturally with her remaining tube, delivering her son just weeks after her 40th birthday.
Mogaji also disclosed that Binta Ayo had considered adoption if she hadn’t conceived by 40. Interestingly, at the time of her son’s birth, neither she nor her son’s father, Jibola, were interested in marriage. Nevertheless, she embraced the role of motherhood with immense joy and gratitude.
Binta Ayo Mogaji on having only child at 40:
“Unfortunately, the pregnancy was ectopic. They took me to seven different hospitals. The doctor said he wasn’t sure I could survive until the next day. The operation took them seven to nine hours. Some of my colleagues who visited me at the hospital were crying.
“The surgeons had to remove one fallopian tube. But I’m living with one and I had my child through natural birth.
“I stopped looking for a husband; I wanted to make a baby. I said if I don’t have a baby until I’m 40, then I’ll adopt a child.
“[My partner], Jibola came shortly before I was 40 because I had my baby six weeks after I became 40 years old. But he didn’t want to get married as well.”
Mogaji’s story is a testament to resilience and the miracles of life, offering hope and inspiration to many women facing similar challenges.
