Nigerian singer Ayra Starr has achieved a remarkable feat at the 2025 MOBO Awards, becoming the first woman in 16 years to win the Best African Act category. The talented artist beat out stiff competition from Asake, Tems, and Tyla to claim the award.

But that wasn’t all – Ayra Starr also took home the Best International Music Act award, surpassing global superstars like Beyoncé, Kendrick Lamar, Nicki Minaj, Megan Thee Stallion, Tems, and Latto.
An emotional Ayra Starr accepted her awards, expressing gratitude to her team, family, and supporters. “Okay, this is my first MOBO. And this is the first time I’m winning a MOBO Award – make some noise! I am actually shaking right now. I am actually nervous. Thank you so much to everybody who supported me,” she said.
