A Nigerian man has stirred controversy online after advocating that men should prioritize investing in their girlfriends over their mothers.
Using his own girlfriend as an example, he argued that entrusting her with his business has yielded more profitable results. In a 4-minute TikTok video shared by @o_powersolution3, he claimed that while he loves his mother, focusing on his girlfriend offers a quicker path to success.
He explained:
“Investing in your girlfriend is better than spending on your mother. Your father is the reason your family is poor. The most your mother can offer during struggles is emotional support. Beyond that, there’s nothing else.”
The man also attributed the financial struggles of many families to poor decisions made by fathers. He urged individuals to break free from traditional family financial expectations to avoid perpetuating poverty.
He further stated:
“You might think I don’t love my mother because I’m saying this. I do, but I love my wife and girlfriend more. She’s my mother, but my father is her husband—not me.”
The video sparked widespread backlash, with critics accusing him of undervaluing the sacrifices and unconditional love of mothers. Many described his remarks as “disrespectful” and “insensitive,” flooding the comments section with dissenting opinions.
In response, @o_powersolution3 clarified that his statements were not meant to diminish his love for his mother but to stress the significance of partnerships beyond the family for personal success. Despite this explanation, the debate rages on, with many questioning the societal values and familial roles he highlighted.
