In a recent interview, popular Nigerian actor and content creator Yemi Elesho took a trip down memory lane, reminiscing about his early days with Grammy-winning singer Asake. Their friendship, which spans many years, is a testament to the power of relationships and the importance of supporting one another’s passions.

Elesho revealed that he and Asake met during their undergraduate days at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife. At the time, Elesho was working on various cinematography projects on campus, and Asake would often feature in his movies. But what’s remarkable about their collaboration is how Elesho would compensate Asake for his performances – with a ₦700 plate of rice and a bottle of Coca-Cola!
“I used to give Asake a ₦700 plate of rice and a bottle of Coca-Cola as performance fees for him to feature in movies during our undergraduate days at OAU,” Elesho fondly recalled.
Their friendship, which has stood the test of time, is built on a foundation of mutual respect, trust, and a deep understanding of one another’s passions. Elesho affectionately referred to Asake as his “day-one friend,” highlighting the significance of their relationship.
