Nollywood actress Ayo Adesanya has bravely shared her personal story of surviving a decade-long abusive marriage. In a recent interview with Chude Jideonwo, Ayo revealed the harrowing details of her experience, which left her struggling with alcoholism.

Ayo recounted how her ex-husband would physically abuse her anywhere he saw her, leaving her with deep emotional scars. Despite the violence, Ayo felt trapped in the marriage due to the shame and stigma associated with divorce.
“I was in an abusive marriage for 10 years, which drove me to become an alcoholic,” Ayo shared. “Anywhere my ex-husband saw me, he would beat me. I couldn’t leave because of the shame that people would say I couldn’t keep a man.”
Ayo’s colleagues, including Bimbo Akintola, had reportedly urged her to leave the marriage, but she felt unable to escape. Her ex-husband’s abuse extended to threatening her with a knife and sending their one-year-old son away to Ibadan due to jealousy.
Ayo’s courage in sharing her story serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of supporting survivors of domestic abuse. Her journey toward healing and recovery is an inspiration to many.
