Timileyin Ajayi, the man accused of brutally murdering his girlfriend, Salome Adaidu, has pleaded not guilty to the charge of culpable homicide punishable by death. Ajayi, 32, was arraigned at the High Court of Justice in Lafia, Nasarawa State, on Monday.
The prosecution counsel, Stanley Nwaforagwu, revealed that the case would be given an accelerated trial, with the next hearing set for March 17-20. Nwaforagwu expressed confidence in the overwhelming evidence against Ajayi, stating that justice would be served.
Ajayi’s defense counsel, Joseph Tukur, maintained that his client’s plea was not guilty, and it was now up to the prosecution to prove their case beyond a reasonable doubt.
The family of the deceased, Salome Adaidu, was represented by a team of lawyers led by Senior Advocate of Nigeria Jibrin Okutekpa. Okutekpa emphasized that they were watching the case closely to ensure justice was done.
The police had earlier paraded Ajayi, alleging that he had killed Adaidu, a 24-year-old National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, during a visit to his house in Nasarawa State. Ajayi had confessed to the crime, citing Adaidu’s alleged infidelity as the motive.
