The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has spoken out in support of his estranged wife, Naomi Silekunola, who was arrested and charged in connection with a stampede that killed over 32 children at a charity event in Ibadan.
Through his Chief Press Secretary, Otunba Moses Olafere, the Ooni assured Naomi that God will vindicate her, emphasizing that she had no intention of harming the children. He noted that Naomi has a history of organizing successful charity events, particularly for underprivileged children, without incident.
The Ooni also addressed criticism for not intervening on Naomi’s behalf, explaining that he cannot interfere with the court process and will instead pray for her exoneration. He trusts that God and the court will ultimately decide her fate.
Naomi and the owner of Agidigbo 88.7 FM, Oriyomi Hazmat, were arraigned on four counts, including conspiracy, acceleration of death, negligent acts causing harm, and failure to provide adequate security and medical facilities.
