Funke Akindele’s latest film, “Everybody Loves Jenifa,” has achieved a remarkable milestone, becoming the first Nollywood movie to gross $100,000 in diaspora sales. The movie, part of the popular Jenifa franchise, was released in cinemas on December 13 and has been breaking records ever since.
Not only has it recorded the biggest opening weekend for a Nollywood movie released outside of Africa, but it is also currently showing in cinemas across the US, Canada, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Germany, Sweden, and Norway.
Funke Akindele expressed her gratitude on X, thanking her cast, crew, and fans for their support. “I’m beyond grateful… Your love and support have been the fuel behind this dream. I couldn’t have done this without you. THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart.”
In Nigeria, “Everybody Loves Jenifa” has also been making waves, becoming the highest-grossing Nollywood movie of 2024 with N500 million in just 12 days. It has broken multiple records, including the biggest opening weekend of all time (N206m) and the highest one-day performance (N87.8m).
