A baby tragically lost his life due to a severe allergic reaction after being fed groundnut soup by his grandmother, despite multiple warnings against it.
This incident was shared on the social media platform X, where a user recounted the heartbreaking story. The post began with the statement, “I cannot even begin to explain how much this upset me,” followed by a screenshot that described the events.
According to the screenshot, the baby had severe allergies to common soup ingredients. Despite being informed of this, the grandmother insisted on feeding him the groundnut soup. Unfortunately, the child passed away before the parents could intervene. The grandmother reportedly justified her actions by saying, “It’s our native soup, so what?”
The post sparked a wide range of reactions from social media users, many of whom expressed anger and disbelief at the grandmother’s actions.
Here are a few of the reactions shared:
@ElJefe__: “Tomorrow when I say it’s okay to discipline elders, people will argue. Sometimes they just need to understand that consequences exist.”
@SmaAfc: “In a developed country, the grandmother would likely be in jail for negligence. We need to set examples to change these dangerous attitudes tied to culture and religion.”
@Sire_Sammi: “This is voluntary manslaughter and should not go unpunished. Nigerian mothers-in-law need serious education on respecting boundaries.”
@amourab: “No grandmother should be this heartless. The grandmothers I know are more protective of their grandchildren. Something is wrong here. She needs serious consequences.”
@Dera_Sznnn: “The next time she has her favorite native soup, it might be in the afterlife.”
This incident has ignited conversations around cultural practices, negligence, and the importance of respecting health warnings, especially when it comes to allergies.
